Pikorua Rock is about great music, good people and having a brilliant time learning to dance.
With nearly 40 years of dancing, competing and teaching experience, Aaron brings a genuine passion for traditional Rock ’n’ Roll to every class. Learn to Rock - Beginner-friendly Rock ’n’ Roll classes in the local community
Classes focus on the fun, energetic style of Rock ’n’ Roll inspired by the music of the late 1950s and early 1960s. Think Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochran, Little Richard, Bill Haley & His Comets and all those irresistible rhythms that make you want to get up and dance.
You’ll learn the fundamentals of Rock ’n’ Roll, develop your footwork, timing and movement, and gradually build confidence as you progress.
No previous experience is needed. No fancy dance shoes are required. And you don't need to be naturally coordinated!

Nearly 40 years of Rock ’n’ Roll
Aaron started dancing in New Zealand in 1987 at the age of 13. What began with a rather unusual incentive from his parents — a dirt bike in exchange for partnering his older sister — quickly became a lifelong passion.
He went on to compete with his sister at club, regional and national level, eventually winning the Australasian Open title in 1996.
Although Aaron eventually left competitive dancing behind, he never left Rock ’n’ Roll.
Over the years he has taught complete beginners, social dancers, advanced dancers and competitive couples. He still believes one of the best things about teaching is watching someone walk onto the dance floor unsure of themselves and leave with a huge smile on their face.
More than just dancing
For Aaron, Rock ’n’ Roll has always been about more than steps and technique.
It has brought lifelong friendships, taken him around the world and even introduced him to his wife, Sheri. More than 25 years later, they still dance together socially.
That's the spirit behind Pikorua Rock.
Classes are welcoming and inclusive, with an emphasis on music, connection, laughter and having fun together. Whether you come with a partner or come on your own, you'll be made to feel welcome.
Why Pikorua Rock?
The name Pikorua comes from a traditional Māori symbol representing an enduring connection — the intertwining of lives, friendships and journeys.
As a Kiwi and someone with Māori heritage, Aaron felt it was a fitting name for a Rock ’n’ Roll dance project built around bringing people together.
Come for the music.
Stay for the fun.
Leave with some great memories.
